Position Summary:

The role of the psychologist is to:

  • Advise the Student Support Department K1 – 12 in meeting the emotional/psychological and learning needs of students
  • Serve as the safeguarding and mental health and well-being lead at The KAUST School

Major Responsibilities:

Testing and Assessment

  • Use psychological instruments, observations, and consultations to identify learning needs and report findings to parents and staff 
  • Administer and analyze a range of specialist assessments (e.g., Developmental Assessments; Cognitive and Achievement Assessments, Diagnostic Autism Assessments)
  • Present results of assessments and make recommendations to parents and staff
  • Train and supervise staff in the use of selected specialist assessment tools
  • Conduct extensive data gathering to advise the school on the appropriateness of placement on the Individualized Learning Program
  • Collaboratively, Engage and advise in the admissions process for students with identified learning differences with the Director of Student Support Services.
  • Lead the Wellbeing approach in TKS as the Designated Person with the responsibility to: 
  1. Case management abuse/neglect concerns 
  2. Provide a hotline for staff to report concerns 
  3. Manage whole school child protection and wellbeing training
  4. Oversee confidential child protection database in school
  5. Collaborate on parenting programs in conjunction with KAUST Health 
  6. Chair TKS’ Wellbeing Advisory Committee
  7. Work as a member of the KAUST Crisis Response Team as and when required
  8. Consult and liaise with TKS and KAUST Health service professionals as needed 
  9. Advise TKS Admissions Panel on the placement needs of students applying to attend TKS

Learning Support Services

  • Meet with Learning Support teachers across all divisions to:
  1. Consult regarding complex cases
  2. Review ongoing programmatic needs
  • Deliver ongoing needs-based psychological support for individual students with significant needs and students and their families in crisis
  • Provide crisis intervention (bullying, suicidal ideation/planning, loss/grief, etc.)
  • Work closely with the Counseling Department and student support staff to develop and implement school-wide programming for identified student needs.
  • Provide for staff wellbeing by providing:
  1. Sign-posting (investigating resources available and advising accordingly)
  2. Leadership to the orientation program for new staff
  3. Organizing events to support staff wellbeing


  • Provide appropriate student, parent, and teacher educational workshops (e.g., attachment theory; executive functions; the neurological basis of learning disabilities; high and low incidence populations).  
  • Organize professional development training in identified areas of need for TKS staff utilizing outside consultants
  • Develop, deliver and evaluate professional development sessions for student support staff


  • Masters educational psychology required
  • Current certification and licensure 
  • At least three years experience working as a school psychologist (K - 12) required, five or more years preferred 
  • Good working knowledge of evidence-based interventions for students with learning and emotional/psychological needs
  • Experienced in administration and interpretation of comprehensive early childhood and adolescent and psycho-educational assessment battery.  
  • Strong leadership qualities and experience
  • Work collaboratively with the counseling teams to address and support complex cases
