The position resides on our Programs team and reports to the Director of California Workforce Programs. This Program Associate role is responsible for supporting CAF’s Healthy School Food Pathway (HSFP) program in California. HSFP is a work-based learning experience that aims to prepare individuals for job opportunities in healthy, scratch-cook school food programs. The HSFP program focuses on supporting workforce readiness and professional growth for new, incumbent, and displaced school food operators.  The pipeline from entry-level positions through management and school food leadership offers professionals the resources, hands-on training, and network to become confident leaders that have in-depth knowledge and experience in creating and running successful scratch-cook meal programs. This includes an emphasis on CAF’s 5 key areas: food, finance, facilities, human resources and marketing. This role will work with diverse stakeholders across a variety of industries, including but not limited to school nutrition, agriculture, labor, workforce development, state government, community college systems, unions and K-12 school districts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with state and federal partners to sustain and expand CAF’s Federally registered Healthy School Food Pathway (HSFP) Pre-Apprenticeship and Apprenticeship programs in California.

  • Work closely with the Director for California Workforce Programs, Senior Coordinator of California Healthy School Food Pathway, and Coordinator of Workforce Development to leverage work and knowledge, share resources, and report out on workforce development initiatives.

  • Support maintenance of program registration and support ongoing reporting as required by state and federal partners.

  • Support Coordinator of Workforce Development with application, participant selection and onboarding processes. 

  • Bridge relationships with California school food programs to evaluate scratch cooking levels and ability to host Pre-Apprentices and Apprentices, in collaboration with CAF’s School Food Operations team.

  • Support identification and partnership development with key stakeholders across diverse industries, such as education, agriculture, labor and workforce development.

  • Maintain awareness/knowledge of child nutrition legislative advocacy efforts in CA.

Basic Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative support to team/organization, including note taking; Schedule benchmarks, check-ins, meetings

  • Create contracts, info sheets, slide decks, report templates, documents, timelines, etc.; Coordinate interpretation and material translation as directed

  • Maintain files and necessary documentation for team; Answer questions and provide information about programs and organization

  • Suggest program efficiencies and opportunities and follow through as appropriate

  • Support technology integration as directed

  • Support coordination of program travel, in-person event and material needs

  • Maintain understanding and awareness of federal and state policies as they relate to program operations

  • Other duties as assigned

Position Requirements

  • Ability to travel for work

  • Ability to learn and engage with new learning technology programs

  • Experience in school food and/or workforce development preferred

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office and GSuite platforms

  • Ability to work virtually and participate in meetings in the Pacific time zone (PST/PDT)

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills required in English and Spanish
