We are seeking to hire two Area Supervisors, one being a Registered Dietician. Please review the job description and qualifications below to see if this job is a perfect fit for you.

Position Objective:

Supervises food services personnel and managers' day-to-day activity and coordination of the National School Food Service Programs in an assigned location. Provides training and guidance to staff and meets production and quality standards. Will report to the Manager of Meal Operations and be involved in the development, implementation, and evaluation of all nutrition education programs, school menus, and marketing.

Essential Functions:

  • Coordinates daily food service operation at assigned school and supervises assigned staff, ensuring programs, school menus, and marketing.
  • Markets and merchandises various foods and services within a school-based environment.
  • Plans, coordinates, and conducts training of food service staff,
  • Evaluates equipment needs, writes specifications, and arranges for delivery, installation, and start-up; ensures regulatory compliance with USDA school meals programs and various other contract feeding programs; and enforces all federal, state, and local health departments, food service, sanitation, and safety laws and regulations.
  • Develops and oversees work schedules, training schedules, and production standards for assigned staff.
  • Ensures proper uses and care of foodservice equipment and supplies; recommends equipment needs and USDA donated foods.
  • Prepares required reports of food services and operations and inventory and performs daily inventory/ordering and accounting duties.
  • Coordinates menu preparation with nutritional analysis determination of menus and assists with recipes, testing of food, supplies, and other products.
  • Assists in determining the type and quantity of food and supplies to be purchased based on student needs and resources available., observe daily food service operations for cost-effectiveness, and makes recommendations for improvements.

Promotes a safe work environment at all times.

In Collaboration with Two Other Dietitians:

  • Be responsible for compliance of all school menus, ala carte items, and special diets.
  • Be responsible for communication with school nurses, families, and kitchen managers regarding special diets.
  • Assist in sourcing/ procuring medically appropriate foods as needed
  • Ensures appropriate Meal Modification forms are submitted, tracked, and filed appropriately as per state, local, and federal regulations.
  • Precept coach, and evaluate Dietetic Interns and other nutrition interns and volunteers to ensure program compliance.
  • Respond in a science-based manner to parent, student, staff, and community inquires related to school meal programs.
  • Present nutrition information to parents, students, staff, and the community in a science-based, age-appropriate, culturally appropriate manner verbally or in a written manner.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operational effectiveness: ensures completion of daily activities; directs and supports the team's work efforts, maximizes productivity, and achieves short-term goals. Improves the team environment; plans evaluates and guides the behaviors of direct reports.
  • Plans and organizes: decide how work gets completed, based on what work is prioritized by management. Sets the team up for success by establishing: goals, action plans, deadlines, and standards. Tactfully assigns work to the team according to aptitude, skills, workload, and interests.
  • Controls quality: closely tracks efforts to confirm work is performed according to standards; checks progress, evaluates accuracy, discovers deviations, and identifies solutions.
  • Coaches and advises: leads and influences the team's best work by serving as an escalation point, solving routine problems, preventing conflicts, and giving direct feedback. Provides instruction and guidance to ensure full understanding of designated activities.
  • Training and development: provide ongoing opportunities to help improve daily work skills; educates new team members, hosts meetings, mentors, and allows showcase of strengths, Ensures compliance with the district by implementing and enforcing standard practices and procedures.
  • Communication: maintains a close relationship and regularly discusses workload and deadlines with the team. Report status to team members and managers, including cost scope, quality, time performance, and output to create a positive team atmosphere and keep everyone informed.


Licensure & Certification:

  • Registered/licensed dietitian (or RD/RDN eligible) or Diet Technician Registered (DTR)
  • Certification or credentialing from the American School of Food Service Association
  • Certified by the Vocational Education Division of the State Department of Education
  • Valid Colorado driver's license or be able to obtain a Colorado driver's license within the state's required timeframe for new residents and meet the District's insurability requirements

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Food and Nutrition, Dietetics or related field required.
  • Three (3) years of successful experience in school foods service management and supervision at a central office level.
  • One (1) year of supervisory experience in large commercial kitchen or food service environment.

Preference will be given to applicants who:

  • Have prior experience in child nutrition or K-12 food programs.
  • Have knowledge of federal and state guidelines as they apply to child nutrition programs.
  • Possess an in-depth understanding of menu planning, meal patterns, nutrient analysis, Smart Snacks, and special dietary needs.
  • Have knowledge of and/or experience using nutrient analysis software programs such as Primero Edge.

Knowledge & Other Qualifications:

  • Skill in cooking, meal planning, nutrition, and preparing food for large populations.
  • Possesses sound management and delegation ability as well as the ability to train others.
  • Ability to set goals, work independently, and drive results.
  • Ability to problem solve operational challenges and think and react quickly
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with individuals at all different levels in the organization.
  • Ability to work in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with District and school leaders, faculty, staff, and students.
  • Mathematical aptitude.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft office products, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience complying with food and kitchen safety and sanitation regulations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and operation of commercial kitchen equipment and the ability to perform minor kitchen equipment repairs.
  • Bilingual skills in Spanish strongly preferred.
